AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND COMPANYComplimentary Reading by LaVerne A. Smith-Bell
My Knitting Nook is my sacred haven. There it is peaceful, quiet and decorated with soft yellow walls like the warm and bright reflections of the sun. My Knitting Nook is quiet, airy and refreshing. Quiet enough for me to concentrate on my next knitting stitch among thousands. My Knitting Nook provides for me a place to rest my soul, my mind, and propel my spirits to a higher level. This is a happy, cheery place! This is my time, my place. My Knitting Nook, a place to reflect and re-establish inner peace -- just take a deep breath and relax.
My Knitting Nook’s resting place is covered with my favorite cotton and satin pillows so soft, fluffy, comforting and coordinates so nicely with the treasured accessories of my choice. Of course, there is my favorite yellow leather chair and ottoman. The chair is protected with the pastel colors and hues of pink and blue throws and flower-adorned cushion with a dash of green here and there. This must be the next thing to heaven! The height of the ottoman relaxes my tired aching feet that have tread through the house and stairs while tending my womanly chores, a grand baby, my two spoiled and adorable Shih Tzu puppies and my garden which is a stress-reliever and a joy. It is true; "A woman’s work is never done." It is ‘Time Out!" time in My Knitting Nook.
My knitting tools consist of some of the finest vintage wood, plastic and aluminum needles, one in every size. Perhaps, one day they will be auctioned off at Ebay. Visit my Ebay store, LaVerne's Novelties of Affection 4U. Don’t hold your breath though! Crocheting? Did you say crocheting? Crocheting is a great hobby, stress reducer also but this is not about crocheting. We are knitting in My Knitting Nook. Knitting is closest to my heart. Next to knitting, there sits waiting on my nightstand is my pink retro-Princess telephone, my access to the neighborhood and family gossip. This time is not about taking care of business, girlfriend! but about having fun. Relaxing! Gossip can be therapeutic, you know. Gossip and knit all in the same breath.
Pictures of my children, and their children adorn My Knitting Nook walls, angled somewhat precisely to catch a glimpse of a loving and insatiable smile. Their faces encourage me to stay focused on what and who is being knitted for. There are days when My Knitting Nook can become a family gathering place even though it is smaller than a one-car garage built to fit one adult person, comfortably. Our family is definitely closer as a result of it. It overflows with love and laughter and conversations of the day at each and every opportunity. My Knitting Nook has almost become a ‘therapist couch’ where my children, grandchildren, friends and family members can come to hash out their frustrations, joys and achievements as well as listen to mine. My Knitting Nook door is never closed. Access to the entrance of My Knitting Nook is beyond passing when family gathers. They know they have got me cornered. But, then what are knitters, mothers and grandmothers for – you do what you can, whenever you can with love and knit. You just do. So, there it is, My Knitting Nook and everything about it, so compatible, so peaceful and so me.
